Service Animals
We follow ADA Guidelines regarding service animals and
welcome them at our events as follows:
Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained
to do work or perform specific tasks for people with disabilities.
All service animals must be under the control of the owner and
that the owner is responsible for taking it out for bathroom breaks
as needed. Service animals must also be harnessed, leashed, or
tethered, unless the individual’s disability prevents using these
devices or these devices interfere with the service animal’s safe,
effective performance of tasks.
Kayaking excursions are a somewhat unique environment for
service animals. Service dogs should be able to get into, out of
and ride in a kayak without compromising stability or safety of
participants. Not sure? Schedule an orientation to introduce your
service animal to kayaking.
Hiking and snowshoeing adventures are generally a good fit for
service animals.
Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate companion or
emotional support animals on our kayaking tours.
Equipment
To allow for greater accessibility for kayaking and hikes, we offer the following adaptive equipment. To ensure equipment is available when you plan your visit with us, please contact L.J. to reserve.
Assistive Equipment
Supportive Seat
Each support point of the seat is able to be independently tilted, adjusted, or removed to create a custom fit.
Outriggers
Outriggers can be adjusted to two positions; either tight to the hull for maximum efficiency or out from the hull for maximum stability.
Kayak Chariot
This unique design allows transfers on a flat level surface (like a parking lot) by positioning the cockpit rim at wheelchair height. With the paddler in the kayak the rig can be rolled into the water and floated off the chariot.
Transfer Bench
Provides a flat stable surface at wheelchair height when used with our kayak chariot. It provides independence for the paddler and safety for those assisting with the transfer.
Paddle Pedestal
This pivoted paddle adaption allows one arm control of the kayak. It also provides support to remove the weight of the paddle from the paddlers arms when using both arms.
Lightweight Paddles
Significantly lighter than the usual paddles found at kayak liveries.
